The Uttarkashi police on Friday registered an FIR against two tour operators for fabricating fake registrations for the Char Dham Yatra. In view of the surge of pilgrims in Yamunotri and Gangotri shrines, the police started an intensive checking campaign to ensure no vehicle or pilgrim entering the shrines sans registration or against other regulations. The police checked two buses at a registration centre located on Gangotri highway and found the registrations of the passengers fake. The police came to know about the scam after they scanned the barcode on the registration document. There were 88 pilgrims on both buses. The devotees told the police that they were cheated by two tour operators named Tinku and Matu from Haridwar. On the complaint of devotees, the police registered two cases against both tour operators at Maneri Kotwali under sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code for fabricating fake registration by fraudulently forging government documents. The superintendent of police Arpan Yaduvanshi also appealed to the pilgrims to not travel without registration and before the date of registration to avoid any inconvenience to them and others.
