Light rain brings relief from heat, weather alert issued for today

Dehradun, Mussoorie and some other parts of the State witnessed very light rain on Sunday bringing some respite from the rising temperatures. The weather is expected to remain similar on Monday with the State meteorological centre issuing an orange warning (Alert) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/hail/gusty wind (30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of the State. Apart from this, very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at a few places in Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts and light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at many places in remaining districts of Uttarakhand. Snowfall is also likely to occur at places situated at altitudes of 4,000 metres and above in the State on Monday.

The meteorological centre has forecast that the provisional State capital Dehradun is likely to witness a partly to generally cloudy sky today with light to moderate rain/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning also likely to occur. Surface wind may be strong and gusty (30-40 kmph) while the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 29 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Sunday were 30.3 degrees Celsius and 21.4 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 31.2 degrees Celsius and 18.4 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 20.4 degrees Celsius and 12 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 21.1 degrees Celsius and 13.4 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. There was 0.5 millimetre rain in Dehradun and 1.1 millimetre in Mussoorie.
