Police arrest man who helped robbers to commit daylight robbery

The police on Sunday arrested a man who allegedly helped three accused of daylight robbery committed in an apartment in Dehradun’s Vasant Vihar area on Saturday afternoon. The three men had allegedly held a family hostage at gunpoint and knife and demanded Rs two crore from the victim Vikas Tyagi. The robbers were allegedly sent by Tyagi’s former business partner Rajiv Agarwal, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He informed that as per the complainant, Agarwal is supposed to pay Rs 90 lakh. Tyagi claimed that the robbers told him that Agarwal had given them complete information about him and his family. He had allegedly given them a contract of Rs 15 lakh to kill them all. The robbers robbed cash and jewellery worth several lakhs of rupees and took Tyagi’s son and brother as hostages in a car. The robbers snatched their mobile phones and wallets and left them in a forest area in Mohand in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The SSP said that Tyagi filed a written complaint against Agarwal and the police had started the investigation soon after registering the complaint. The police arrested the accused Omveer Singh (34) who was currently living in Dehradun’s Patelnagar area but belongs to Haridwar’s Bhagwanpur area. 
The police also recovered Rs 3.5 lakh from the accused. The SSP said that the arrested accused had helped the three robbers to enter the building by diverting the security guard’s focus. He confessed that the robbers gave him Rs 3.5 lakh after robbing the family and left the spot. The SSP said that in the investigation so far, it has come to light that one of the main accused involved in the incident knows Tyagi and his family members really well. He had full knowledge of the ongoing disputes between Tyagi and his former business partner. Several criminal cases are also registered against the said accused in Uttarakhand and nearby states. Several police teams are continuously raiding possible places to arrest the accused, he added.
