In order to carry forward the ideals of noted environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna who passed away on Friday, a tree was planted at Navjivan Mandal in Silyara on Saturday. Bahuguna had planted saplings decades ago near his Ashram in Silyara where they have developed into a small forest.

The forest has oak, banana, pear, Peepal, chura, guava, almond, chestnut, walnut and gooseberry trees which also remind the people of his love for nature. His followers paid homage to him by planting a Peepal tree at Silyara Ashram on Saturday. Speaking online, his son Pradeep Bahuguna exhorted the people to plant trees especially board leaf trees and those used for fodder.

The veteran environmentalist used to call big dams as a temporary solution to a permanent problem. He used to stress on the need for covering the catchment area of the rivers with dense forests. This will not only provide permanent water to the country but also control the flow of rivers.
