The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) imposed penalties on eateries of fast food restaurant chains of McDonald’s, KFC and Domino’s situated in the Rajpur Road area on Friday for violations of Solid Waste Management rules.

A sanitation team under the supervision of chief municipal health officer Dr Avinash Khanna held an inspection of these bodies and found various violations. Khanna said that the team found during the inspection that these prominent eateries are disposing of their garbage in open areas against the rules. It was also observed that many consumers of these outlets were dumping packaging material just outside their premises due to the unavailability of any garbage bins.

The management of these establishments has been observing such activities daily but did not take any action on the matter, said Khanna. Stating that these establishments were not following sanitation rules under the SWM rules, the team imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on  KFC and Domino’s.

Besides this, the MCD asked the Mc Donalds to put up a garbage bin outside their premises, said  Khanna. He said that the MCD took these actions as per its initiative of ensuring efficient disposal of garbage generated by bulk waste generators in the city.
