Thunderstorm & squall warning issued for isolated places

Light to moderate rain was experienced in various parts of the State with snowfall being reported from the higher reaches in some parts on Tuesday. The inclement weather is likely to continue with the State meteorological department issuing a warning (alert) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/hail/intense showers and squall (50-60 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarakhand on Wednesday. Subzero temperatures are likely to prevail for most of the time at places situated at altitudes of 3,200 metres and above in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thunderstorms/snowfall are likely to occur at many places in the State’s districts today with snowfall likely to occur at places situated at altitudes of 3,200 metres and above.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a generally cloudy sky. One to two spells of light to moderate rain/ thunderstorm with lightning/gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are also likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 27 degrees Celsius and 16 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Wednesday.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Tuesday were 24.4. degrees Celsius and 17.8 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 23.6 degrees Celsius and 19 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 9.2 degrees Celsius and 6.7 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 13.2 degrees Celsius and 9.2 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. Light to moderate rain was reported in various places with 40.5 millimetres in Kashipur, 31 millimetres in Bhimtal, 27 millimetres in Champawat, 26 millimetres in Lohaghat, 21.4 millimetres in Pantnagar, 20 millimetres in Mukteshwar, 16 millimetres in Pithoragarh, 13.2 millimetres in New Tehri and three millimetres in Dehradun.
