Light rain, thunderstorm & snowfall likely in mountains today

Various parts of the state experienced light rain with some parts in the higher reaches experiencing light snowfall on Thursday. The provisional state capital Dehradun also experienced a spell of hail in the afternoon apart from a few spells of light rain. For Friday, the State meteorological centre has forecast very light to light rainfall / thunderstorm / snowfall which are likely to occur at a few places in the mountainous regions of Uttarakhand.  Dry weather is likely to prevail in the plains of Uttarakhand while snowfall is likely to occur at places located at altitudes of 3,000 metres and above.

The provisional state capital Dehradun is forecast to experience partly cloudy sky with thunder cloud development likely in some ares towards the evening/night. The maximum and minimum temperatures here are likely to be about 24 degrees Celsius and nine degrees Celsius respectively on Friday. Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at various places of the state on Thursday were 23.2 degrees Celsius and 12.2 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 25.2 degrees Celsius and 10.9 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 10.8 degrees Celsius and 3.6 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 15 degrees Celsius and 5.4 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri. Dehradun received 1.3 millimetres of rain on Thursday while 0.8 millimetres of rain was recorded in both Mukteshwar and New Tehri between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Similarly, during the same time period, Mussoorie received 6.1 millimetres of rain, the summer capital Gairsain received five millimetres of rain and Dunda in Uttarkashi district received 10 millimetres of rain.
