Hundred garbage bins to be installed in Rispana river

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will soon install 100 garbage bins in the Rispana River to curb the garbage disposal by locals in the river.

The development comes after the corporation recently started Rispana cleanliness campaign under Mission Rispana as per the instructions of Dehradun district magistrate, Ashish Kumar Srivastava. In the last two days, the corporation has cleaned around 200 metric tonnes of garbage that mainly contained single-use plastic waste, silt and sludge waste. The officials informed that the plastic waste recovered from the River is being sent to Sheeshambada solid waste management and recycling plant for proper disposal. A few days back while reviewing the progress of the work done for the revival of Rispana River, the DM instructed the MCD officials to install dustbins so that nearby locals refrain from dumping garbage in the river. Since the corporation has now started cleaning the river, the installation of the garbage bins will be commenced soon, said Joshi.

“After collecting and cleaning a considerable stretch of the river, we will start installing 100 dustbins of 200 litres capacity across the stretch of 18 kilometres that comes under the corporation,” informed Joshi.
