In latest Uttarakhand news, after waiting patiently for as many as 29 years, some residents of Manupur village in Kashipur area of Udham Singh Nagar district, are all set to receive the land-owning documents as a result of  the initiative of the Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat. Speaking on the matter, Rawat said that these villagers had remained settled inside the Corbett National Park area and they were later evicted and as part of rehabilitation, they were provided with new lands in the forest area to settle in. As a survey of these lands was conducted, it was found then that some people had encroached upon these lands. After the encroachers were evicted, the Kumaon Commissioner and Udham Singh Nagar district magistrate handed the villagers provisional land ownership papers. Now, the stage is set for these villagers to receive the final land-owning documents from the administration. Visibly elated, these villagers went to the residence of the Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat to convey their gratitude to him for taking pains to ensure that they get rights for final settlement.
