The police arrested two of the three men accused of daylight robbery held in an apartment of Dehradun’s Vasant Vihar on Saturday afternoon. The accused Mohammad Furqan and Mohammad Wasim were arrested after an encounter with the police near Asharodi late on Sunday night. Furqan was shot in the leg and a sub-inspector sustained injury in the encounter. The police also recovered some looted jewellery from the arrested accused along with two country-made pistols and two live cartridges, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. The two accused identified as Shubham Tyagi and Kapil Kumar alias Ravan are still absconding. Kumar is the main accused in the robbery and Tyagi along with the other arrested accused Omveer kept an eye outside their flat, the SSP said. The victim Vikas Tyagi registered a complaint late on Saturday that three men had allegedly kept him and his family hostage at gunpoint and knife and demanded Rs two crore. The robbers were allegedly sent by Tyagi’s former business partner Rajiv Agarwal. He informed that as per the complainant, Agarwal is supposed to pay Rs 90 lakh. Tyagi claimed that the robbers told him that Agarwal had given them complete information about him and his family. He had allegedly given them a contract of Rs 15 lakh to kill them all. The robbers robbed cash and jewellery worth several lakhs and took Tyagi’s son and brother as hostages in a car. Singh said that the involvement of five people in carrying out the robbery has come to light in the investigation so far. However, the complainant has also expressed that he was targeted by some people who wanted to kill him and his family. “We are probing the matter and police teams are looking for the absconding accused at all possible places,” he added.
