Enforce single-use plastic ban in departmental offices- Haridwar DM

Acting on the directions of the Central and State governments, the Haridwar district administration has instructed all the departments to ensure that single-use plastic items are not used in any departmental office.

Haridwar district magistrate Vinay Shankar Pandey said that the Government of India had issued a notification in which 21 plastic items along with single-use plastic carry bags were banned. An order has been issued by the Uttarakhand government regarding this. He has directed the sub divisional magistrates to conduct meetings in their respective areas and raise public awareness about the items banned by the government. “At the same time, we have decided that single use plastic should be banned in all government offices I the district as well.Orders have been given to all the departments that from now onwards, no one will use plastic in their office. We will get this implemented at the Tehsil level soon,” he said.

The Haridwar municipal commisioner Dayanand Saraswati said that single-use plastic has been completely banned in the municipal office. Glass and clay cups are being used instead of disposables at the municipal corporation. Strict action will be taken against anyone found using the prohibited plastic items in the office of the Municipal Corporation of Haridwar, he said. A meeting will be held with the traders soon to make the ban more effective. Further, efforts will also be undertaken to raise public awareness about the same, he added.
