In an act that restores faith of many in doctors and humanity, a doctor from Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), Dr Shashank Singh, senior resident, orthopaedics donated blood to his critically ill patient before operating on him later. A patient with severe fractures in his left arm and thigh was admitted to the hospital on November 7. After his condition stabilised in the next few days, doctors decided to operate his thigh but could not do so as he needed blood transfusion before the operation.
The patient’s daughter offered to donate her blood but she couldn’t due to medical issues. Nobody else came forward to donate blood causing delay in his operation. When Dr Shashank was made aware of the issue, he donated his blood to the patient on Wednesday besides later operating on him. The Head of the Department, Orthopaedics, Dr Anil Joshi also appreciated the humanitarian and kind gesture of Dr Shashank towards his patient. The GDMC principal Dr Ashutosh Sayana also praised Dr Shashank and said that every doctor and medical staff should have such kind sentiments towards their patients.
