Curtailing Kumbh against the religious sentiments: Cong

BJP taking Covid 19 pandemic as excuse to hide its failures

Terming the preparation done for the Kumbh in Haridwar inadequate, the Uttarakhand Congress has accused the state government for taking Covid-19 pandemic excuse to hide its failures. The Vice president of Uttarakhand Congress, Suryakant Dhasmana told media persons at Congress Bhawan here on Wednesday that the Uttarakhand government is now planning to reduce the duration of Kumbh which is against the religious sentiments. He said that the state government which had opened liquor shops during lockdown has now opened everything including restaurants, bars, cinema halls, coaching centres and schools which means that the government has accepted that the Covid-19 pandemic is on the wane.

Dhasmana said that the first major Snan in Kumbh is more than one and half months away but even then the government is trying to limit Kumbh. “This clearly means that the Uttarakhand government was hoping that the pandemic would continue in the year 2021 so it made half hearted efforts to prepare for the event. The government is not capable of testing and screening of the devotees arriving for Kumbh. The followers of Hinduism come to Kumbh without any invitation and the dates of Snans in Kumbh are decided on the basis of the Hindu calendar and not by government notification,’’ he said.

The Congress leader added that the BJP government is committing the sin of not following the Dharma and people would forgive it for it.
