The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on Thursday imposed a total penalty of Rs 1.5 lakh on three dairy operators for disposing of waste in drains and open areas. These dairies are located in Sewak Ashram Road of Chirnowali area which were purportedly diluting cow dung to dispose of it in drains and were accumulating it in nearby areas causing health nuisance to locals. The sanitation teams of the corporation take cognisance of the issue after receiving complaints against the dairies, said the chief municipal health officer Dr Avinash Khanna. He said that the MCD imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each on three dairy operators for dumping animal waste in the drains and public places. “We also warned them that the corporation will file a case against them and take strict action as per the law if they repeat the offence again,” said Khanna. He said that the corporation will continue to take necessary steps in upcoming months to tackle such issues efficiently in the city. Besides this, locals can also approach MCD if they observe such nuisance in their respective areas, he added.
