Intensifying its diatribe on the director general of police (DGP) Uttarakhand Ashok Kumar, the State unit of Congress party has demanded that legal action should be taken against him for releasing a recording of his telephonic conversation with the father of Ankita Bhandari on the social media.

In letter written to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun, the general secretary (organisation) of the party Vijay Saraswat has said that the issue of the releasing the conversation deliberately on social media which went viral, by a person of no less in stature than the DGP of the State is a serious issue and that it comes under the breach of right to privacy.

Giving details of the Ankita Bhandari case, Saraswat in his letter said that the Congress party under the leadership of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara is agitating for justice to Bhandari. He alleged that an effort to influence the investigation in the case has been done by the release of the conversation of the DGP with the father of the victim that had gone viral. Saraswat said that the case under the relevant section of the IT Act should also be registered against the DGP.
