Death toll climbs to 72, four still missing

A total of 72 deaths have so far occurred in Uttarakhand after heavy rains lashed different parts of the state on October 17, 18 and 19. The rain triggered landslides, house collapses and deluge caused large scale devastation and loss of life and property in the state. As per the report of the state disaster control room 26 people were injured in the disaster while four people are still missing. A total of 224 houses were damaged in the disaster. The natural disaster incident report released on Saturday evening mentions that a maximum 63 deaths occurred on October 19 in different districts of the state.  In Nainital 35 deaths occurred while 10 people died in Uttarkashi, eight in Champawat and six in Almora. 

Meanwhile an inter-ministerial team of the central government arrived in the state on Saturday in Pithoragarh to take stock of the damage caused by the disaster. The team would be in the state for two days. The five member team has arrived in the state on the orders of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. On the day the team impacted the condition of All Weather road, roads constructed under PMGSY and other affected areas.
