To transform pre-independence era Chaubatia garden in Ranikhet into a centre of excellence, the government of Netherlands, government of India and the horticulture department of Uttarakhand government have joined hands. Wide-ranging discussions have been made on the project among the specialists of the three governments to churn out a detailed project report. Notably, the Netherlands is one of the topmost countries of the world in terms of the quality of its horticultural produce. It I learnt that the horticulture officers of the state will be trained by the specialists from Netherlands to run the centre.
It is further learnt that for high-tech research into the soil-related diseases, a laboratory would be built. Besides conservation of rain water, a meteorological centre, a training centre, cold storage and a nursery would be established. The specialists from Netherlands say that if things get on smoothly, aside from Chaubatia garden spread over about 100 hectares, the government gardens in Kashipur, Jeolikot and Ramgarh would be taken up for improvement.
