SIT arrests KP Singh’s close aide in registry fraud case

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested the close aide of the main accused in Dehradun’s registry fraud case Kanwarpal Singh alias KP Singh. The accused identified as Mahesh Chandra alias Chota Pandit (55) belongs to Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur and allegedly used to prepare fake registry documents as per KP’s orders. The original documents were then allegedly destroyed and replaced in the registry office, said the senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. He said that SIT has arrested a total of 12 accused in the registry scam case so far including prominent names like advocate Kamal Virmani and KP Singh and Chandra’s name came to light during the interrogation of the arrested accused. It was revealed during the investigation that Chandra used to work as a clerk in the business of turmeric and herbs of KP Singh till 2014. The SSP said, “Chandra told police during the investigation that KP Singh told him eight years ago that he wants to do the work of buying and selling disputed property in which he can make huge profits. He said KP used to bring old blank papers and stamps from various cities like Meerut and Delhi. He used to make Chandra and another man named Maange Ram, now dead, copy old property documents on those blank papers. They used to prepare fake deeds by copying the written documents on old stamps and blank papers exactly how they were written in original property documents brought by KP. Later, KP used to destroy original papers by tearing and burning them. He then used to replace the original property papers in the Dehradun’s registry office with the help of Virmani and others.” The SSP said that KP also brought accused Chandra and late Maange Ram in Dehradun once to copy the property documents for the lands of Mittal in Nawada, Indravati in Raipur and Swaroop Rani in Jakhan among several others. According to him, it took them over a month to copy the handwriting of the old original documents. Besides this, they also prepared about five deeds of properties located in Dehradun as per KP’s directions, claimed Singh. He said that Chandra was sent to jail after presenting him to the court. He added that SIT has received crucial evidence against other culprits involved in the matter and will soon make more arrests accordingly.
