With only three days left for polling in the assembly elections, general observer Sigy Thomas Vaidhyan appointed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) along with five other observers held a meeting with the district magistrate and election officer of Dehradun, R Rajesh Kumar and the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Janmejaya Khanduri on Thursday to review the preparations for the polling day. Vaidhyan directed returning officers (ROs) to make proper arrangements for immediate installation of another Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) if any machine fails to function properly on February 14 to avoid any hindrance in the polling process in booths. The observers also directed them to check basic facilities like electricity, necessary equipment and other necessary arrangements at polling booths in advance to avoid any hassle on Monday during the polls. They also instructed ROs to ensure to collect all the items associated with votings given to polling parties before the process of casting votes starts before the party’s departure to avoid any kind of inconvenience.

Besides this, they also discussed security arrangements in polling booths and in the cities with the DM and DIG. Subsequently, the observers also went for inspection in Maharana Pratap Stadium with the DM and DIG to check the security and monitoring of the strongroom and other arrangements.
