The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has eliminated three out of five companies that had participated in the tender floated last month to manage the operation of the solid waste management and recycling plant in Sheeshambada after they failed to meet the corporation’s required criteria.

The officials informed that the corporation has been analysing all the information and documents presented by the five companies that showed their interest in operating the plant. The officials said that the MCD eliminated the three companies after completing the verification process as they did not fulfill the required standard to operate the plant. One of the two remaining companies is a Mumbai based agency Excel which is presently managing sanitation projects in cities like Varanasi and was one of the three companies that participated in the tender floated earlier. It was the only company remaining after the MCD eliminated two other companies that failed to meet MCD’s criteria to run the waste management plant.

Since MCD had already carried out a physical inspection of Excel last time, the officials said that a team of experts will soon go to Bhopal to verify the work experience of the second company that participated in the latest tender. Since the Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL) which manages the operation of the waste management plant in Sheeshambada besides managing door to door garbage collection service in 69 out of 100 wards announced its plan to discontinue work in August, the corporation has been making efforts to select new agencies to replace it. REEL has already extended its stay for one and a half month as MCD is yet to choose agencies to run the operation of the waste management plant and door to door service.

The sanitation section has already divided 11 wards each between the two agencies which have been managing door to door services in other wards. The tender for door to door services is also scheduled to be opened on November 9. The officials stated that the corporation will certainly select two agencies this week for the operation of the waste management plant and to manage door to door services in the remaining 47 wards.
