On finding several anomalies in five coaching centres of Dehradun during an inspection on Saturday, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has stated that it would take action against violation of child rights in such educational institutions. A team headed by the executive chairman of the commission, Vinod Kaparwan, conducted a surprise inspection of five defense academy coaching centres on Saturday and observed many irregularities.

According to him, the coaching centre operators are charging considerable fees from the students in the name of defense academy when they are not even provided with basic facilities. He said that the SCPCR team found the condition of the hostels provided for the students quite bad. He said that the institutes have not even made proper medical facilities available for the students.  He said that most of the teaching faculty members appointed in these institutes did not have proper qualifications as per the standards. Kaparwan said that the lack of standard operating procedure (SOP) from the State government for the proper operation of the coaching institutes is the main cause of such irregularities across the State.

However, he also added that the commission has approached the State government to set up guidelines for the operation of coaching institutes across the State to ensure the safety of young students and it is being considered by the officials concerned. He said that the setting up of SOP will help the authorities concerned to take required action against such institutes under the law. He said that the commission will also send the inspection report of these coaching centres to the government besides sending notices to these coaching centres. The commission will take necessary action against the institutes and would not tolerate any violations that jeopardise the future of young students, added Kaparwan.
