The Uttarakhand tourism department has abolished the entertainment tax on rafting on the rivers of the state except Ganga for three years. This move is meant to boost river rafting activities and provide employments to the locals.

At present, there are 526 river rafting guides registered in the state. Tourists come from across the world to Rishikesh to enjoy rafting in Ganga. Rafting is being done from Kaudiyala to Risikesh.

Among the major rivers in the state except Ganga are Kali, Sarju, Ramganga, Koshi, Tons, Yamuna and Alakananda where rafting is done. The state tourism department believes that the tax abolition move will boost river rafting activities in these rivers.
