Police tighten security in vulnerable areas after CAA implementation

The Uttarakhand police have stepped up security in the plain districts after the Centre notified the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rules. The police have deployed sector magistrates and police officials in vulnerable areas to ensure critical situations in case of CAA backlash by the minority community can be tackled efficiently, the inspector general of police and spokesman of Uttarakhand police Nilesh Anand Bharne said. He said that the additional director general of police (Law and Order) AP Anshuman directed all district in- charges of police to make all arrangements to stay fully prepared to deal with any situation. He said that as per the orders, the additional police along with PAC have been deployed in vulnerable areas that mainly fall under four districts- Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital. The deployed officials have been directed to ensure constant patrolling and vigilance in their respective areas, especially at places where minority community resides. Bharne said that the ADG has also directed all district police to hold meetings with people of minority communities to communicate and coordinate with them to ensure peace, law and order are maintained. “We also urge people to seek permission from the police before staging any kind of protest against CAA. We also appeal to people to not spread fake news, disinformation and rumours about CAA to cause panic among citizens that can potentially disturb peace and harmony. The police’s social media cells are active in all districts to track all social media platforms. The police will take strict action against those who will be trying to spread hate and fake news among citizens,” Bharne said. The police are alert and have made all preparations in view of CAA implementation, he added.
