Plastic Bank set up in Swami Rama Himalayan University

With an objective of scientific disposal of plastic waste, a Plastic Bank was set up in the Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU) on Friday. The bank was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the SRHU, Vijay Dhasmana and founder of Social Development for Communities (SDC) foundation Anoop Nautiyal. Speaking on the occasion, Dhasmana said that environmental protection is the responsibility of every one. He said that the SRHU has set up an example for others in the use of solar energy and water conservation. The VC said that the Plastic Bank would help in proper disposal of the plastic waste.  He said that a campaign against single use plastic is also being undertaken in the university. The founder of SDC foundation, Anoop Nautiyal informed about the concept of Plastic Bank and its working. He said that segregation is an important step in proper waste disposal. Nautiyal said that disposal becomes easier by separating dry and wet waste at homes. He said that the Bank would help in creating awareness on plastic waste disposal and environmental protection. Indrajit Ghosh of Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP), Dehradun said that the IIP is working on preparing diesel from the plastic waste.
