Focus on construction of libraries in schools: CS

Chief secretary SS Sandhu reviewed the progress of the works being done under the ‘scheme for special assistance to states for capital investment 2023-24’ at the State secretariat on Wednesday.

 In the meeting he directed that review meetings at the level of secretary concerned should be held twice a week for these projects. He said that a dedicated team for approvals of the projects should be constituted for the fast movement of files. The CS directed the officers to expedite the works of construction of libraries and said that libraries in the schools should be strengthened. He said that new libraries should be constructed in the schools where libraries are not there. The CS said that the entry point of these libraries should be from outside the schools so that local people can also take their benefit.

 The CS asked all the departments to prepare a master plan for the next 30 to 50 years for their land use. This will ensure proper usage of the land and help in fulfilling the requirements of the future. On a stern note the CS directed the officers that the utilisation certificates (UC) of these works should be provided on time. He said that the pending works should be expedited and UC should be provided.

 The meeting was attended by additional chief secretary (ACS) Anand Bardhan, secretaries Dilip Jawalkar, Ravinath Raman, HC Semwal, VK Yadav, additional secretary Ahmed Iqbal, Nitin Bhadoria and other officers.
