Fanfare missing in PoP after Gen Rawat’s demise

Sunday, 12 December 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

The fanfare which usually is an integral part of any Passing out Parade (PoP) was missing in this parade. This was the academy’s way of paying tribute to one of its bravest and celebrated alumni CDS General Bipin Rawat and other officers who were killed with him in the recent helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu.

As destiny would have it, the CDS was scheduled to be in Dehradun for the PoP on Saturday but it was his ashes which arrived in the state on the day to be immersed in the Ganga at Haridwar. As a mark of respect for General Rawat all the flags in the academy were flying on half mast and the helicopters which flew past the marching contingent did not shower floral petals as they do during each PoP.

Bangladesh medal for best FGC constituted

The Passing out Parade December 2021 also marked the 50th anniversary of victory of the Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 war. This year is being observed as Swarnim Vijay Varsh in honour of the Indian soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty. In the memory of this war and to commemorate the war heroes, Bangladesh Medal for the Gentlemen Cadet standing first in the order of merit among foreign GCs was instituted. This medal was presented to Sangay Phendhen Dorjee of Bhutan.
