The cyber crime police station of Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a 23-year-old accused from Rajasthan for his alleged involvement in cyber frauds amounting to about Rs 19 crore carried out across the country. The accused has been identified as Ritik Sen, a resident of Bhankrota in Rajasthan’s Jaipur and over 30 complaints of cyber fraud have been registered against him in the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) from various States. He had allegedly scammed all of his victims in the name of providing them work from home by liking and subscribing to YouTube channels, posting Google reviews, liking Instagram posts and leaving hotel reviews, among others, said the deputy superintendent of police of STF’s cyber crime police station Ankush Mishra. He said that a Dehradun resident registered a complaint stating that an unknown person contacted him through the Telegram app and offered him an opportunity to earn profit by doing an easy part-time job and gave him a mobile number to contact him. The complainant contacted the accused who claimed to be from a company that offers jobs like rating places in Google and liking posts on Instagram, among others. The DSP said that the accused used to send links of various companies to the victim on Telegram to review them and various transactions happened between both the parties for several days. During the process, the victim later realised that he had lost a total of Rs 14 lakh from his account. The complainant registered an FIR against the unknown under Sections 420, 120 B of the Indian Penal Code and 66 D of the IT Act in the cyber crime police station, said Mishra. He said that the cyber crime police started the investigation using technical analysis and nabbed the accused from Jaipur on Saturday.  He said that it was revealed during the investigation that the accused had scammed Rs 19 crore from people belonging to Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, Delhi and Kerala. He said that this is the first arrest in this case and more are expected to be caught by STF. The DSP appealed to the people to not get lured by lucrative job offers and to refrain from sharing personal details with unknown people on social media platforms and call at 1930 to complain about financial cyber frauds.
