State witnesses widespread rain & snowfall, more forecast on Sunday

Various parts of the state received rainfall and snow on Saturday. While Dehradun and other places in the plains and mountains received rain throughout most of the daytime, the places located at higher altitudes experienced snowfall.

The state meteorological centre has forecast light to moderate rain/snowfall at many

places in districts of Garhwal region and very light to light rain/snowfall at a few places in districts of Kumaon region on Sunday. Further, snowfall is likely to occur at places situated at altitudes of 2,500 metres and above. The provisional state capital Dehradun is forecast to experience partly cloudy skies with possibility of light rain/thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 20 degrees Celsius and nine degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Sunday.

Meanwhile, there was considerable snowfall in the higher altitude mountainous regions of Chamoli district including Badrinath, Hemkund, Valley of Flowers, Niti, Gorso and Auli in addition to higher reaches in some other districts. In Auli, the tourists enjoyed the fresh snowfall which renewed the enthusiasm for skiing.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various places of the state on Saturday were 13.2 degrees Celsius and 10.7 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 18 degrees Celsius and 11.8 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, six degrees Celsius and four degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 7.6 degrees Celsius and 6.4 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri. Dehradun received 29.8 millimetres of rain, New Tehri received 46.8 millimetres, Chinyalisaud received 50 millimetres, Mussoorie received 34.5 millimetres while Lansdowne received 45.5 millimetres of rain on Saturday.
