Rs 28 lakh fine imposed for misbranding fruit juice

The Haridwar additional district magistrate (Finance and Revenue) has imposed a total penalty of Rs 28 lakh on five persons and enterprises for misbranding of a fruit juice.

According to officials, a sample of Tropicana litchi juice was collected during an inspection of Priasma HR Solution private limited at Jwalapur by the municipal corporation food safety officer in July 2013. The sample was sent for laboratory testing in Rudrapur where misbranding was found in the sample.

The parties responsible did not appear for hearings in the ADM’s court. Following this, the ADM Krishna Kumar Mishra imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on Priasma HR Solution account manager, Rs two lakh on C&F depot owner and license holder Ashok Kumar Sharma, Rs five lakh on Varun Beverages limited-Roorkee and Rs 10 lakh each on Schreiber Dynamix Dairies Limited and Pepsico Holding private limited. All have been directed to deposit the penalty amount within 30 days.
