The Dehradun district magistrate R Rajesh Kumar has instructed officials to check on the children regularly who have lost both parents to the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure they are not being exploited by anyone. During the district level review meeting of Mukhyamantri Vatsalya Yojana (MVY), Kumar stated it is the administration’s responsibility to look after orphan children and ensure they are not being harassed or exploited under any circumstances. Also, the officials were directed to ensure there must be no harm to children’s ancestral property.

He also directed district probation officer Meena Bisht to make alternative arrangements to provide such children safety, education and employment opportunities till they start receiving benefits under the scheme. Moreover, the DM asked Bisht to release a toll free number for the potential beneficiaries of MVY to contact the officials for any queries and help regarding the scheme in coordination with sub divisional magistrates (SDMs) and the child development department. Responding to this, the probation officer informed that potential beneficiaries can now call toll free number 181 or child helpline number 1098 for any queries regarding MVY. She appealed to all the potential beneficiaries to contact the administration to get all the benefits of the scheme.
