The Dehradun police on Monday arrested 16 men from Maldevta near Song river in Raipur block on charges of consuming alcohol in a public place and committing hooliganism in the area. The officials said that the police took this action under their special drive Operation Maryada to ensure protocols are being followed by tourists and visitors in tourist spots.
The police also imposed a penalty on 58 people and recovered a total of Rs 14,500 under this drive. The officials said that Maldevta is a popular tourist spot where locals besides tourists from nearby cities and states arrive regularly but many indulge in activities like consumption of alcohol and commit hooliganism causing public nuisance. The officials said that such activities disturb the nearby people along with other tourists considering which, a special team of the Raipur police consisting of 15 officials conducted a campaign under Operation Maryada in Maldevta area.
The police conducted inspections in various eateries including restaurants, hotels and dhabas among others and found several people consuming alcohol and creating ruckus near the Song river. Taking strict action against all offenders, the police arrested 16 people and imposed a penalty on 58 persons collecting a fine amounting to Rs 14,500 under the Police Act, said the officials. They said that all offenders were warned to not repeat the offence again. The locals also appreciated this campaign by the police which will be continued in future too, said the officials.
