The cyber crime police of the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested a man from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh on charges of duping a Dehradun resident of Rs 68 lakh. The deputy superintendent of police, STF, Ankush Mishra said that the victim had lodged a complaint at the cyber crime police station a few days ago. He claimed that he was duped of Rs 68 lakh under the pretext of receiving training for share market trading, and was promised large profits by people who claimed to work for a stock trading firm called BlackRock India. The DSP said that the cyber crime unit started the investigation and arrested two accused from Uttar Pradesh within a few days. The teams continued their investigation and arrested another accused named Sanman Singh (44) on Thursday from Bhopal. Mishra said that the accused revealed their process to dupe people during interrogation. He told the police that he along with his other associates used to create a fake company and present themselves as employees of various stock market and stock trading companies. They used to approach their victims through WhatsApp calls and messages to dupe them under the pretext of providing information about stock trading and investment in the stock market. They used to follow a process to get people into confidence and add them to various fake WhatsApp groups. Subsequently, they send links to the groups and ask them to download certain apps after which the money from victims’ bank accounts gets transferred to their accounts.  The DSP appealed to people to not click any links from unknown sources and download random apps since these methods are being blatantly used by cyber fraudsters to pull a scam.  People should not fall for quick money-making schemes and refrain from making online transactions with unknown people, he added.
