Number of cases registered in police stations dropped in 2023

The Additional Director General of Police, (Crime, Law and Order) AP Anshuman talked about effective action taken by the police against various crimes in 2023 in a Press conference held at Sardar Patel Bhawan here on Tuesday. He said that a total of 16,549 cases were registered in the State under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in 2022 compared to only 15,797 cases in 2023. He said that out of 15,797 cases registered, the police solved over 86 per cent cases and took action against more than 61 per cent accused. 

Besides this, the police also solved 93 per cent of the cases of crimes against children under the POCSO Act and took action against all accused, said Anshuman. He also informed that a total of 432 criminals including notorious criminals absconding in serious crimes were arrested last year. The police acted against 288 criminals involved in organised and serious crimes under the Gangster Act.

Besides this, the police also acted against 262 criminals under the Goonda Act. “In the past two years, the police have confiscated the illegally acquired property of 30 accused arrested under the Gangster Act worth Rs 186 crore. A total of 1,381 fire incidents took place in the state in 2023 in which property worth Rs 18.79 crore was destroyed while property worth 121. 13 crore along with 318 human lives and 93 animals were saved by the police.  Besides this, a total of 1,23,620 women registered in the Gaura Shakti Module under Uttarakhand Police App that shows their trust in the police,” the ADG said. 

He also informed that a total of 6,065 complaints have been registered on the E-Complaint Module of the Uttarakhand Police App out of which 5,604 complaints have been successfully resolved. The ADG (Administration) Amit Sinha also informed that a total amount of Rs 18.50 lakh has been sanctioned to 251 meritorious children of police personnel and at present, the process of sanctioning scholarships to 367 meritorious children is in progress in the current financial year.

“The department made appointments on 1,585 posts and promotions were provided on 1,201 posts. The department also established Smart and Intelligent command and control centres in Nainital, Pauri and Tehri districts with an amount of Rs 4.30 crore under the modernization scheme,” he added.
