National CPR week celebrated in Mahant Indiresh Hospital

The week is celebrated in memory of former President Kalam who died after no one could perform CPR on him

In the memory of former President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam, Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital and Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health are organizing the ‘National CPR Week’. A short informative street play emphasizing upon the importance of CPR was organized on Saturday in the hospital by the Department of Anaesthesiology under the guidance of its Head of Department ( HOD) Dr Robina Makker . The patients, their attendants and the general public visiting the hospital were given awareness about the early recognition of cardiac arrest, timely call for help, initiation of CPR, early defibrillation and post resuscitation care.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Makker said that CPR stands for Cardio- Pulmonary Resuscitation, which is the emergency procedure consisting of chest compressions, in an effort to maintain circulation to the vital organs of the body. She said that the general public must learn and know about how to do CPR to save human lives in hours of medical emergencies. Associate Professor, Dr Ashutosh Singh said that every year July 21– 28 is celebrated as National CPR Week in India in the memory of former President APJ Abdul Kalam who collapsed during a public function and died as nobody could perform CPR on him.

The street play was followed by an interactive question – answer session where the doubts of the general public were addressed by the doctors of the Department of Anaesthesia.  

The Medical Superintendent (MS)  Dr Ajay Pandita, Dr Alok Kumar Mathur, Dr Anjali, Dr Ashutosh Singh, Dr Anoop Negi, Dr Kyizom, Dr Priyanka Mishra, Dr Gaurav, Dr Tejasvini and the students took part in the programme.
