Taking cognisance of media reports on the inferior quality of road reconstruction and strengthening on two stretches of national highway 121, the Public Works minister Satpal Maharaj ordered fixing the responsibility on the company responsible. On the minister’s directions the department has removed Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM) from upto 10 metres on the road in question. According to officials, relaying of DBM of the appropriate thickness will be done again soon on the stretch.

Complaints were being made regarding the inferior quality of road work on NH 121 (309) stretches from Beeronkhal to Majhgaon and from Thalisain to Salondhar. The minister directed the national highways officers to ensure that no compromise is made with the quality of work. He informed that reconstruction and strengthening of the said stretches of the national highway is being undertaken. The 156 kilometre (0-2) of NH 121 is the spot where the DBM layer came undone due to humidity and lack of sunlight. The responsibility for this was fixed on the company which had executed this work under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode. The Public Works minister said that this stretch of the road in question has been scraped. Orders have been issued to relay DBM of the prescribed thickness on this stretch of the road. This work will be started soon, added the minister.
