The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) issued a notice to two residential societies imposing a penalty of Rs 10 lakh each for discharging untreated sewage water in open drains, the Rispana river, and roads.

As per the notices issued by the chief municipal health officer Dr. Avinash Khanna, the MCD teams along with the councilors of the respective areas conducted inspections of Resizone Residency Society which has 225 flats situated at Mayur Vihar in Sahastradhara Road and Classic Apartments with 65 flats at Gangotri Vihar in Chironwali.

The team did not find Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) in both residential societies. The team found out that the sewerage water of Resizone Residency Society was being discharged into nearby drains and streets. The sewerage water of the Classic Apartments was also being discharged into nearby drains, the Rispana river, and roads due to which the area stinks and can potentially cause health risks among locals. The teams also found several other irregularities on both premises, considering which MCD issued a fine of Rs 10 lakh each on the management of both residential societies.

Considering that the maps of both societies are approved by the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) despite the absence of STPs, the corporation has asked the latter to inquire into the matter and take the necessary action.
