Doon a corruption hub in the name of Smart City: AAP

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that the first rain of the monsoon has shown that the level of corruption has become abysmal in the name of the smart city in Dehradun. They said that the rain in the past two days has exposed the fake development claims of the government in the name of making Dehradun a smart city.

The spokesman of the Garhwal division of the party, Ravindra Singh Anand said that not just a small part but all the major areas of the city were waterlogged in the first heavy spell of the monsoon rain. He claimed that most of the waterlogging occurred due to improper and incomplete smart city projects for which the government has set aside a budget of Rs 2,000 crore. He said it is clear that the budget is not being spent properly considering the recent condition of roads across the city.

He said that work on most of the roads is still under construction and one can easily find potholes on roads and dug-out surfaces due to which the public has to face issues even during the non-rainy season. He said that such inefficiency in the smart city works despite a huge budget clearly points towards corruption among officials and the government. He said that all schools will reopen soon and such miserable condition of roads in the city will cause serious trouble to young students during monsoon.

Such damaged and waterlogged roads can lead to severe accidents but the government is not ready to take any responsibility for its failure, added Anand.  He said that the government and authorities concerned must be held responsible if any accident or unfortunate incident happens due to the ‘smart work’ being done across the city.
