Maharaj stresses on efficiency & work quality while reviewing PWD & Irrigation Dept

The Public Works and Irrigation minister Satpal Maharaj held meetings to review works of the Public Works Department (PWD) and Irrigation department here on Wednesday. The minister directed departmental officials to ensure work efficiency while also focusing on quality of the works.

Reviewing works of the PWD, Maharaj said that departmental preparations must be made considering the changing nature of monsoon while ensuring that the quality of roads is not affected. Stressing on the need for alertness considering landslides being caused by heavy rains, he said that roads and bridges should be checked periodically. Special focus should be laid on quality and timely completion of works, he said. Stating that most departmental Dak bungalows were in a dilapidated condition, he said that these should be repaired soon. He pointed to the need for leasing out the Dak bungalows for maintenance in cases where departmental arrangements are not possible. To keep the officials and engineers abreast of technical developments, the PWD should organise a conference in which the Irrigation, Minor Irrigation and Rural Works Department should also be included. Secretary RK Sudhanshu, head of department Ayaz Ahmed and other officials were present in the meeting.

Reviewing the works of Irrigation and Minor Irrigation departments the minister said that Irrigation and Panchayati Raj departments will have to work in coordination for execution of the Amrit Sarovar Yojana. Stating that reservoirs are to be constructed at various places in the State under the Amrit Sarovar scheme, the minister said that Irrigation and Panchayati Raj departments should identify the sites and prepare work plans for this purpose. He directed officials of the Minor Irrigation department to inform farmers through video films about the importance of sprinkler systems in irrigating with less water. Secretary HC Semwal, head of department Mukesh Mohan and other officials were present in the meeting.
