Would inaugurate an outreach programme for Panchayat representatives

The Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla would inaugurate an Outreach and familiarization programme for Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) of the country in Dehradun on Friday.

Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat and Speaker of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha Premchand Agarwal would attend the programme. The theme of the programme is ‘Panchayati Raj System: Strengthening the Decentralised Democracy’.  About 405 Panchayat representatives including 26 District Panchayat Chairman and deputy Chairman along with 109 Block Panchayat heads and 270 nominated village Pradhans of Uttarakhand would attend the programme.  

The organisers claim that 376 district Panchayat members, 3201 Block Panchayats members and 7791 village Pradhans would attend the programme in an online mode. The objective of the programme is to create mass awareness and to develop self confidence in the panchayat representatives. It also aims to sensitize the grass root political leaders about democratic values, creating awareness about the various schemes and the doorstep delivery. The programme is being organised by the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE), Lok Sabha secretariat in coordination with the department of Panchayati Raj Uttarakhand.
