With the Uniform Civil Code Bill tabled in the Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday expected to be passed by the Assembly, the Bharatiya Janata Party is planning to celebrate this development across the State.

The BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said that the bill was tabled by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in the Assembly. The BJP hopes that after a constructive debate involving members of the treasury and opposition benches, the bill will be passed in the Assembly on Wednesday. He expressed hope that the opposition MLAs will rise above party lines and become a part of the process of providing a uniform law to the people of Uttarakhand. “There is excitement across the State with the bill being tabled in the Assembly. The party workers will organise programmes in various locations to express thanks after the bill is passed. There will be fireworks and distribution of sweets along with rallies to celebrate the development with the public. The party has decided that people from all sections, religions and communities will be present in the celebration programme,” Chauhan said.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, BJP members celebrated tabling of the UCC bill in the Assembly by distributing sweets at the party’s State office in Dehradun.
