From April, no government vehicle belonging to the Union government and the state government older than 15 years would be allowed to move on the roads. As per the notification issued by the Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry, nearly 9 lakh government vehicles used for transportation and in public sector undertakings would be deregistered and scrapped. In Haldwani, there are around 350 government vehicles which would face the same fate from April 1. ARTO Bimal Pandey informed that some people are still confused over the notification. He made it clear that the order of deregistering vehicles applies only to the government vehicles and it would not affect the private cars older than 15 years and their renewal of registration would continue for them as in the past.
