With accidents continuing in the mountainous regions of the State, one person died and four were injured after a vehicle fell down the mountainside after colliding head-on with another vehicle near Jadipani on the Chamba-Mussoorie Road. Four of the injured were in a serious condition and were referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rishikesh.
According to sources, a car and a jeep collided near Jadipani on the Chamba-Mussoorie Road on Saturday morning. The car fell down the mountainside following the collision. One person died on the spot and five persons were injured. Out of the injured persons, four were referred to AIIMS Rishikesh in a serious condition. The car was being driven from Chamba towards Dhanaulti when it collided head-on with a jeep coming from the opposite direction near Jadipani. The driver of the car lost control after the collision, causing the vehicle to fall down the mountainside. On being informed about the mishap, the Chamba police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team reached the accident site. The police and SDRF teams rescued the injured persons from the gorge. One person identified as Tushar Pandey, who was travelling in the car died on the spot. A total of four persons were travelling in the car and two were in the jeep at the time of the accident. The district disaster management officer Brijesh Bhatt said that the five injured persons were first taken to the Chamba community health centre by ambulance. Four of the persons with serious injuries were referred to AIIMS Rishikesh. According to sources, it is being reported that the accident occurred when one of the vehicles was in the process of overtaking another vehicle and collided with the vehicle coming from the opposite direction. The police investigation is expected to ascertain the exact cause of the mishap.
