The Uttarakhand Congress has accused the State government for not honouring its promise made to the police personnel on the issue of Grade pay (GP). The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said on Monday that the just ahead of the assembly elections in the State, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had assured a delegation of the family members of the police personnel that the issue of the demand of Rs 4600 grade pay would be solved before the imposition of model code of conduct (MCC). However the CM adopted a stoic silence on the demand of Rs 4600 GP both before and after the elections, Mahara added.

The PCC president said that when the family members of the police personnel organised a press conference on the issue, the Dhami government adopted a dictatorial attitude and suspended four policemen. He said that the suspension of one police personnel was revoked later but three are still waiting for their reinstatement. Mahara said that the State government should not forget that the police personnel were offered a GP of Rs 4,200 two years ago but they refused it and their family members started an agitation. He said that the new offer by the CM is not different from the earlier one but the State government is projecting it as a major achievement. The PCC president said that the Dhami government is trying to persuade the police personnel by putting stars (new rank of Additional SI) but this would not work. He categorically stated that the decision of the Dhami government is neither acceptable to the police personnel nor to the Congress and the party would continue to extend support to the police personnel on the demand of GP of Rs 4,600.

On Sunday CM Dhami ordered creation of 1750 new posts of Head Constables and 1750 posts of Additional Sub Inspectors (ASI) in the police force. Both these posts would have a GP of Rs 42,00.
