Covid-19 contagion intensifies in U’khand

20 deaths, 1005 fresh cases reported on Wednesday

After slowing down somewhat in the last couple of days, the contagion of novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) again picked up steam on Wednesday with the state health department reporting 20 deaths and 1005 fresh cases of the disease. The death toll from the disease in the state is now 611. With Wednesday’s surge the tally of Covid-19 patients in Uttarakhand climbed to 49000. The authorities declared 976 patients free from the disease on the day. A total of 39035 patients have so far recovered from the disease and the percentage recovery for Covid-19 patients stands at 79.66 percent. However the infection rate (IR) continues to remain high at 7.14 percent.

Wednesday proved to be the day with the most number of fatalities with 20 deaths. Death of five patients was reported at Sushila Tiwari government hospital, Haldwani on Wednesday. Three patients of the disease each succumbed at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh, Himalayan hospital Dehradun, Military Hospital Roorkee and Medicity Rudrapur. Two patients were reported dead at HNB Base hospital Srinagar while one patient died at Metro hospital Haridwar.

The authorities reported 336 fresh cases of Covid-19 from Dehradun, 133 from Haridwar, 112 from Nainital, 65 from Pauri, 61 from Chamoli, 59 from Tehri, 58 from Udham Singh Nagar, 54 from Champawat, 41 from Uttarkashi, 26 from Bageshwar, 24 from Pithoragarh, 20 from Almora and 16 from Rudraprayag district on Wednesday.  

The health department discharged 424 patients in Dehradun after recovery and 139 from Haridwar district on Wednesday. Similarly 138 patients recovered in Nainital, 48 in Pauri, 39 Udham Singh Nagar, 36 in Tehri and 32 in Pauri. The state now has 9111 active patients of the disease. Dehradun district with 2874 active cases is at top of table while Haridwar with 1492 active cases is on second spot. Udham Singh Nagar has 996, Nainital 915, Pauri 645, Uttarkashi 448, Tehri 368, Chamoli 295, Almora 292, Champawat 265, Pithoragarh 251, Rudraprayag 162 active patients of the disease. With 108 active patients of Covid-19 Bageshwar district is at bottom of the table.
