Leopard trapped in Pauri village where woman was killed

A leopard was trapped in one of the two cages installed in the Bhattigaon village area of Paubo block in Pauri district early on Friday morning. The caged leopard was brought to Nagdev forest range by the department employees from where it was sent to the rescue centre in Chidiyapur, Haridwar. It is pertinent to mention that a 70-year old woman was killed by a leopard in Bhattigaon on the night of June 2.The leopard attacked her when she was going to the adjoining house.Her body was recovered in the woods about 80 metres away by the village. The Nagdev range personnel had placed two cages to trap the leopard in the area.Two women have been killed and one injured by a leopard in three villages in the area. The villagers of Siproli, Bhattigaon and other villages, angered by these incidents had demanded assurance from the divisional forest officer Mukesh Kumar that the leopard responsible will be declared a man-eater and shot. The DFO assured the villagers that all measures will be taken to get rid of the terror of leopard. Kumar told this correspondent that on the instruction of higher officials, two teams of hunters were deputed there to help in trapping the leopard. He said that there are few other leopards in the area and in such a situation it is not viable to declare one of them a man-eater.
