Taking strong exception to the participation of Vidhan Sabha speaker Ritu Khanduri in the election campaign of the BJP candidate, the Uttarakhand Congress has demanded her resignation.
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that the speaker is openly campaigning in support of the BJP candidate which is against the dignity of the constitutional position she is holding. He said that the post of Assembly speaker is a constitutional position and the speaker is not associated with any political party.
Mahara said that there is a long standing tradition that the speaker does not participate in election campaigns but Khanduri has breached the tradition and she should now resign from her post. The PCC president said that the election commission should take a serious note of the campaign by the speaker in support of the BJP candidate and take necessary action against her.
