Cong cries foul on Dhami’s record breaking win

Terming the record breaking victory of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in the Champawat Assembly by-poll as unusual and one which raises suspicion, the Uttarakhand Congress has demanded an inquiry by a retired judge of the high court on the CCTV cameras not working in and around the polling booths for three hours on the polling day. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that the data shows a surge in the voting per cent between 1 PM and 4 PM in Champawat on the polling day. He alleged that this was the time when the BJP workers were involved in bogus voting and during this time the CCTV cameras were also non functional. Mahara claimed that the administration helped in manipulation of votes and alleged that the Congress agents were not allowed to enter more than 50 per cent of the polling booths. He also accused CM Dhami for taking out a motorcycle rally after the end of campaign time in gross violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Former CM Harish Rawat also raised a question mark over the record victory. He said that the manner in which the ruling party violated all procedures to increase the victory margin of CM Dhami does not augur well for democracy in the state.
