Complete preparations to tackle disasters in monsoon: CM

Considering the coming monsoon season, all departments concerned should complete preparations to deal with disasters. Chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat said this while chairing a video conference with officials regarding preparations for the monsoon.

Stating that this is a challenging time with incidents of cloudburst also occurring, he said that all necessary equipment for disaster management should be ready. Disaster control rooms should be set up at Tehsil and block level too along with district level and minimisation of response time in case of a disaster should also be ensured. In places vulnerable to disasters, sites should be identified for setting up relief camps.

Rawat directed the officials to ensure provision of foodgrains in the mountainous districts considering the monsoons. Nodal officers should be appointed soon in all the linear departments. Mock drills in accordance with Covid appropriate behaviour should be held soon in districts where they haven’t been conducted yet. All the district magistrates should lay special focus on helipad maintenance, he said. The CM directed the Public Works Department to facilitate alternative routes to minimise inconvenience to the public while travelling. Officials should also ensure quick response for drinking water and electricity from the viewpoint of disaster with special focus on quality of drinking water, said Rawat.

Chief secretary Om Prakash directed officials to set up early warning systems near vulnerable hydro electric projects. The district magistrates along with officials of SDRF and Civil Aviation department should inspect helipads to ensure their maintenance. The communication network should also remain operational, he added.

The meeting was attended virtually by the State minister for Disaster Management, Dhan Singh Rawat and other officials concerned while the CM’s chief advisor Shatrughna Singh, principal secretary RK Sudhanshu, SDRF DIG Ridhim Agrawal and others were also present.
