Accused escapes from police custody after court appearance

A man accused of theft escaped from police custody after being presented in the court in Laksar on Saturday. A cordon has been laid by the police personnel around the Laksar Tehsil premises.  Policemen were searching for the escaped accused in the sugarcane fields and also using drones to assist in the search.

A prisoner lodged in Haridwar jail was brought to the court in Laksar for hearing. While returning from the court, he managed to give the police a slip. The accused is said to be Madhu, a resident of Muskabad village of Laksar Kotwali area.  According to the information, Madhu was lodged in Haridwar district jail in a theft case. He appeared in court in Laksar on Saturday. Laksar police circle officer Hemendra Singh Negi said that an accused from the district jail was brought to the Laksar court on the date of hearing after which he managed to escape from the two policemen accompanying him. The police are searching for him and he will be nabbed soon, said Negi. The accused had not been caught till the time of this report being filed.
