Special stress needs to be laid on the nation’s defence preparedness considering the changing global scenario. The governor, lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh said this while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar on India’ defence preparedness organised by the Uttarakhand War Memorial Trust here on Saturday.

The governor said that the nation is moving towards self-reliance and becoming a developed nation on the basis of new technology and modernisation. The nation’s internal and external security has become stronger due to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his strong political will and hard decisions. Considering the changing global scenario, special focus needs to be laid on defence preparedness, he said.  Singh said, “Ending its dependence on imports, the nation has now become an exporter in the defence sector. The farsightedness and leadership capability of PM Modi has changed the thinking and perceptions of people about India on the global stage. India is now developing a different identity in the world. Works for the welfare of the nation, society and public have picked up pace in this era,” he said.

Vice admiral Suraj Berry, vice admiral (retd) Pradeep Chauhan, lieutenant general (retd) VK Sharma and other experts also expressed their views on India’s defence preparedness. Uttarakhand War Memorial Trust chairman and former MP Tarun Vijay was also among those present on the occasion.।
